86% give the government a passing grade; while 14% would mark it an F.

Jun 16, 2026

Our latest spark*advocacy nationwide polling wrapped up late this week, with a large sample of 4462 adults across Canada.

Here’s what we find as Parliament gets ready to rise for the summer.

  • Overall satisfaction with the “way in which the federal government is handling its responsibilities” sits at 66%. Over 12 data points in our tracking since Carney took office, the average approval rating was 65.2.
  • Majorities of BQ and NDP voters as well as a third of Conservative voters approve of the overall performance of the government.

  • Asked to grade Carney as Prime Minister, 86% offered a passing mark while 14% said they would give Carney an F. The plurality said the government deserved a B, and a total of 55% would give the government an A or a B. Interesting to note is the fact that 50% of current CPC voters give Carney an A, B or C. Just 32% of Conservatives would give Carney a failing grade.
  • Asked whether - in an upcoming election - they would prefer a Carney win or a Polievre win, Carney was preferred by s 63:37. Majorities of BQ (68%) and NDP (71%) voters would prefer to see Carney win in that scenario. 16% of Conservative voters would prefer Carney to Poilievre, while 7% of Liberal voters would prefer Poilievre.

Our results are always weighted to the proper proportions of the population by age, education, gender and region.

(We do not consider it a reliable practice to ask people how they voted in last election and weight results based on how people answer that question.
